A small team of midwives provides antenatal, labour and postnatal care for women registered at Westbury Group Practice.
The midwives are able to offer pre-conceptual advice to women thinking about having a baby.
It is recommended that women are booked by a midwife, ideally by 10 weeks. This is to ensure women receive information on folic acid supplementation, maintain adequate Vitamin D stores, food hygiene, lifestyle advice and all antenatal screening.
Wiltshire Community Health Services are aiming to book women around 8 weeks’ gestation to ensure all women receive this information and have the opportunity to discuss screening tests. At this appointment blood can be taken to screen for anaemia, blood grouping and red-cell alloantibodies, screening for haemoglobinopathies and infectious diseases. It is the woman’s decision to accept or decline screening once information has been given and discussed.
Please contact the midwife direct to arrange this appointment.
You may also telephone the midwife for any advice during these first 12 weeks.
The midwifery team are part of the Trowbridge Midwife led Unit and work at Westbury Hospital on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you choose to have your baby there, often you will be cared for in labour by a midwife you have met.
Once you have had your baby, the midwife will also be able to give advice on maternal and baby health at hospital and in your home.
Midwives are available at Westbury Hospital on 01373 823616
