Patients who take the anti-coagulation drug Warfarin need a regular blood test called an INR to monitor the dose of Warfarin they need to be taking.
We have a dedicated clinic called the INR Clinic that is held every week day morning from 8.40am - 11.10am at Eastleigh Surgery, where a fingertip blood test is taken from the patient. The sample is then immediatley tested using a small device called a CoaguChek S System. The result takes less than 1 minute to process, the trained clinic staff then follow a protocol to give instruction to either continue on the same dose or increase or reduce the amount of Warfarin that is taken daily.
The patient will also be informed when the next blood test is due and the appointment may be made during the consultation if the patient wishes. The CoaguChek S System was kindly donated to Westbury Group Practice by the Patients' Forum.
