For the past 7 years, Westbury Group Practice has been involved in clinical trials.
The unit, originally set up by Dr Edwards, is now co-ordinated by the Principal Investigator, Dr Mike Gumbley. Nurse, Miriam Ballesfin-Skelton is involved in the day to day management of the trials.
Over the years we have been involved in many studies, some long-term and others quite short. Subjects covered have included diabetes and asthma treatments, various skin conditions, depression, urinary incontinence and lipid lowering. All the studies are rigorously monitored and conducted to the highest standards and under the scrutiny of the Bath Local Ethics Committee and the National Ethics Committee. Indeed a recent audit concluded that this was an excellent unit paying particular care to the wellbeing of its patients.
The Unit is part of the Baronet group of trials units centred in and around Bath, and is frequently involved in exchange of ideas with these other practices.
Involvement in studies can either result from us contacting patients about certain conditions, or from patients responding to notices occasionally put in the waiting rooms.
If you need to know more about the studies we perform, please contact Gareth O'Neill or Miriam Ballesfin-Skelton at Eastleigh Surgery.
